Administering Medications in eMAR Connect

Administering Medications in eMAR Connect

To administer Carer Administer marked topical medications in eMAR Connect, start by logging in and selecting the appropriate resident. You can choose from the different rounds at the top of the screen, though it will default to the current round you are in.

Only medications that have Carer Administer switched on in the check-in section of eMARx will be visible here. Select the medication you wish to administer and scan its barcode using the device camera. Due to the nature of creams and other topical medications, if you’re unable to scan the barcode after a few attempts, you will be given the option to override the barcode. This action will be logged in the activity table.

Once scanned, you will be taken to the Prepare screen. Prepared is selected by default, but other options include: Administered, Refused, Hospitalised, Social Leave, Destroyed, Other (define), Offered, and Not Required. Select the appropriate option and press Save. If you selected Prepare, the medication will be added to the cup, allowing you to prepare other medications for the resident.

Note: The other administration options will turn the medication tile grey to indicate that it has been recorded and no further action is required.

Once all medications for the resident are prepared, proceed to administer them. Then return to the device to record the outcome by selecting the cup icon at the top right of the screen. You’ll see the same outcome options (excluding Prepare). Tick the medications you wish to record the same outcome for, choose the appropriate option, and press Save. You can now move on to the next resident.
